WEEK THIRTY-ONE

And I had another day off, and at least I didn’t waste it. I got up relatively early, and had to go on an emergency milk run to the dodgy café on Hyde Street. Sometimes it is just necessary.  I didn’t really get up to much in the morning, we just had a nice brekkie of tea and an egg roll, and just pottered about. Will then convinced me and Toni to do some more stuff on the house, and we both got armed with a sander. And that was what we did for the rest of the day, or at least until it was dark, and the mozzies started attacking us. Then it was time for a shower, as I was covered in sawdust – lovely. When I got out, there was a blazing fire, and I felt like a kid again! We had an awesome dinner of roasted veggies – just what I felt like! In the evening, we watched the Comedy Festival 25th Birthday programme – we may have had a day off, but still couldn’t keep away from the place! It was a bloody good show, and it almost made up for the fact I haven’t been able to go and properly see a show anyway – I didn’t mind too much. I also once again decided it was time to try and sort out my computer – one day it will be beautifully organised, but it definitely isn’t at the moment!
The next day I decided to once again have pancakes for breakfast – they are so easy, and so tasty, I can’t help it! But they were to be my last for a while – I can’t get into the habit of it! One of them did manage to fall on the floor though which made me pretty sad, until I applied the ‘3 second rule’, picked it up, and tried to forget about it’s brief spell on the lino. Then I decided it was time for some online shopping – the state of my pajamas was getting silly, and they either have holes in them, or are just far too big, so treated myself to some lovely new ones, and they will be waiting for me in the UK when I get home. I couldn’t bring myself to pay the £15 delivery to Australia, and I already have far too much for a 30kg allowance. I will just have to wait a few months. I also gave in to Threadless, and bought a couple of t-shirts. It’s turning into a bit of an obsession. Work was pretty dull, but at least it was the final week – only four more nights of sitting in a corridor. Thank god. As Daniel Townes was the final show that night, I waited a few minutes for any latecomers, and then went to watch a majority of the show. And, it was brilliant. I have him to thank for almost choking with laughter at the back of the room! Not complaining though! I had a quick smoke after work, and then ran to get the train. When I got to Yarraville, I checked something in my bag and realised that my tobacco was gone. And, the only thing I can think of it that I either left it on the bench where it rolled one, or it fell out of my bag when I was rushing to get the train. How very annoying. I then sat down on a seat, and emptied my bag, just to make sure, and then made a detour on the way home to the 24 hour service station. How very annoying. By the time I got home I was starving and made myself a giant toasted sandwich, and then quickly realised my eyes were bigger than my stomach, and after half of it I had to give up on it. Gutting!
On Wednesday it was raining. It had to happen at some point, it’s Melbourne! So I spent the morning trying to sort out my recipe book – I haven’t done much with it for a while. I then found out I had lost the pumpkin pie recipe I was given in Tasmania. Bugger. It was a really good one too. I also punctuated my cutting and sticking with a lot of cups of tea – it was the only way to get through my pancake cold-turkey! I gave up on my recipe book pretty, and instead set to work on sorting out my photos. All in a vain attempt to get my computer in some sort of system. I had a special treat at work that night, and was given the number of a random security guard. I think I’d seen him a total of three times, and didn’t actually know his name but, anyway. I used the crap excuse that I didn’t have any phone reception, and therefore couldn’t give him mine. Shame. I then deleted his number. Ha! After work I called Liz for a chat and to find out her news. And, once again, I didn’t go to bed till 4am. Maybe once the festival is over my sleeping will go back to normal.
I woke up at 10am, absolutely knackered. Made a cup of tea straight away, and sat in the kitchen waiting for it to kick in! I messed about on my computer for a bit, and then gave Turnip a hug, and fell asleep for a while. She is just so cuddly, and fluffy. Work was work. Nothing exciting happened. I did get bitched at more than once about my radio not working, and where I was sitting, which was odd, 3 days before the end. But, I moved my seat, and tried my best to angle the radio right, so I had reception. It didn’t really work – even if I didn’t move it at all, it would just dip in and out. Stupid thing. I went home straight away – so over it all!
I left enough time to go to IGA on my way to the train to pick up the ingredients I needed to make truffles – I felt like making something to celebrate the end of the festival, and truffles are easy as hell! They also travel well, so they were my treat of choice. My plan did mean that I had to take all my goodies to work with me which was a bit annoying! What annoyed me more was the fact I had a free coffee card and couldn’t use it because the damned coffee place was closed. Stupid Good Friday Bank Holiday!! So, I had to settle with a $1 tea – not exactly what I was after, but it helped a little bit! Throughout the course of the night, I did manage to find some kids book someone left in the venue, and no one even came back to get them. So, I read them. At least it wasted a few minutes! After work I went across to Hi-Fi to see Will, and watch the awards ceremony. I looked like a bit of a bag lady with my random bag of food, but I dumped it all in the tech cupboard. Phew. I was slightly dubious that the awards were just going to be a bit of a boring thing – funny people telling other people that they are sufficiently funny. But, it wasn’t half as painful as it could have been. In fact, I enjoyed it.
On Saturday I had the time and I had the ingredients, so I set to work making truffles! I almost wish I hadn’t managed to get the recipe – I am going to end up huge if I keep making these so often! Ah well, they were going to be shared at least. Although it wasn’t actually the last day, it was the last day that all of the usual shows were on, and on Sunday it was all changing for the last night. Boring But I only had 2 more days of work, and I was pretty chuffed, to say the least! So, when I got to work, I offered them around, and they didn’t go down as well as I thought they would. And that was the story for the rest of the night – which meant I sat in a cold corridor eating truffles all night. I’ve had worse night’s at work! During my break I used my final coffee card, as the next day was Easter Sunday, and I knew the place would be closed. Nothing is better than a free coffee! I also listened to a chunk of Hannah Gadsby’s show, which was in the room next to me, so I could still keep an eye on my venue. She is brilliant!
And so it was over. Thank god. And, I found out that the festival had actually had two bonuses, firstly, and most obviously, my bank account looked much healthier than before, and slightly more shocking, my skinny jeans fitted me better! The lack of proper dinners had worked! Haha! As it was also Easter Sunday, me and Will opened our parcels from Mum and Dad, and we got lots of chocolate, and a little painted egg from somewhere in Europe.  The whole night at work I just counted the hours until I was finished, and got a few presents! And they were both in jokes, and I loved them I won’t bother explain it, but, I ended up with a massive bag od cheese Twisties, and a t-shirt with a dinosaur spray painted onto it. There was a new show in my room, and because it had no tech time beforehand, it ended up going up half an hour late. Not good. But, everyone seemed to come out happy in the end, so that was fine. And then we tidied up the room and stacked the chairs. Done and dusted. I also got a cool bag. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it, but, they always come in handy.  The theme for the party was ‘out of space’ ad they had gone to town covering the Hi-Fi with tin foil. I on the other hand, couldn’t resist the temptation of wearing the dinosaur t-shirt, so on it went! This was the only place in the world where a few people may understand! Throughout the night, I drank lots of vodka, and just chatted with people. It would be a while until I saw them all again. There was also a little show on, and we all got treated to a bit more of ‘Briefs’. And that was that. At some point in the night, I have no idea when, we all came home, and went to bed. Hurray! It was over!
