WEEK THIRTY-FIVE

Monday had been my designated day to do nothing for along time, so that is exactly what I did! I woke up at 9:30, feeling pretty good after my sleep in a real bed, but still, that didn’t tempt me to get up, so I made a cup of tea, and then went back to bed, to watch some of the new series of the Apprentice – geeky or what! But, I had a bed, and I wanted to have a lie-in! After a few hours, and multiple cups of tea, and a few biscuits later, I thought I really should get up, and get on with something. Not before I properly appreciated the bed, and rolled around on it for a while – it seems so huge! I did a little bit of work on the wood, mainly doing resin. It is so time-consuming waiting for the bloody stuff to dry – you can only do one lot each day. Boring!! It also seemed like I was still doing the same bits – it just kept absorbing everything! Quite boring. I just need to think about how it will look at the end, and hopefully that will motivate me! Even after my lazy start to the day, I still ended up having a nap – I just lay down, and woke up an hour later. Ah well, I had nothing to do for the whole day! Funnily enough, my extended sleeping hours meant that I couldn’t sleep that night, and tossed and turned for hours. I did wake up properly at about 5am to put on a jumper – it was freezing! I think I have become accustomed to being in the same room as the fire! I might even have to make a wheat bag if it is going to be so cold! What a wuss!
The next day I woke up feeling pretty good after eventually getting to sleep, and had some pancakes and tea, then got ready to go to the City. I had a meeting with a box office manager for some of the theatres, and apparently he might have some jobs going – I was more than willing to go into the City for the possibility of getting a job. I also had some other stuff I could when I was there! When I got off the train, I knew I wasn’t far from the theatre…but had no idea what direction to go. After asking a couple of people, and eventually finding the right one, I located the box office. The guy I wasn’t meant to speak to was there, but sadly had no idea I was coming! Hurray! Not awkward at all. So, with that pointless exercise undertaken, I went for a swim. Much more productive, and I was there longer than I planned to be, as around the time I was going to get out, a rather attractive bloke came in. That made we stay a bit longer! Haha! I then headed to the centre of the City again, and wanted a new ‘Frankie Magazine’. Turns out I was too keen, and it wasn’t even out yet. Dammit. So, I went to Lush to get some more lovely bath tings – a little bit addicted. I wanted something was bubbles this time, a luxury bath is a bit sad without bubbles! When I was having a look, and a sniff, a lady who worked there accosted me, and for the next 10 minutes I just got stuff put under my nose to smell. Not weird at all. Once I managed to get rid of her, I was free to make my decision, and ended up spending $15 on stuff for a bath – and it is all going to be used in one mega-bath! Once I had my purchases I headed home again for dinner. I had somehow managed to waste most of the day just wandering about the City. How lovely. I once again had my special of pumpkin and feta quiche – it’s turning into an unhealthy obsession. But it is so good, and so easy!
After another chilly night, I gave in, and decided to make a wheat bag! So, I went into Yarraville to get the necessary stuff. I got some dirt-cheap trousers from the Op-Shop, that cost me $3.50, and then got a bag of rice for $2. Not bad at all! I should sell thee things! I wasn’t concerned with making this one pretty, so just did a quick job of it. Once I had wrestled with the sewing machine for a while, it was ready to test. Two and a half minutes in the microwave, and it proved to work! Fantastic! I did some work on my recipe book for a few hours, but I did get loads done, it has been a bit neglected recently. In the afternoon I went back to Yarraville to go to the cinema and see ‘La Rafle’ (The Round Up) which was about the treatment of Jews in WWII. Cheery! I knew it was going to be depressing as hell, but the trailer looked so good – I had to go and see it. The wonderful thing about the Sun Theatre is that at certain times it is dead, and it was one of those times. I found the right screen, and there was no one else there. I was a little early, so expected more to come. Turns out they didn’t, and I was the only one watching the film! So, I got the best seats, and got comfy – which wasn’t hard, as every seat was a little sofa. Can’t complain for $10. The movie was fantastic, not uplifting, but really really good. And it was pretty cool being in there on my own. I also gave my Cv to one of the cute little shops in Yarraville, and the guy working there recognised me from Melbourne Fringe, so we had a little chat – that can only work in my favour surely?
At some point in the night Will sent me a message with the details of a job just up the road, in a recoding studio. Wasn’t really sure what the job was, but it seemed to be a kind of receptionist – easy enough. On my way there I came across another gym, and went in to get a list of their classes. As usual, they never let you just do that, and so I was given a guided tour, and a run down of all of their membership packages. I didn’t sign anything, and eventually managed to get out, with the little information I wanted, and a whole lot of other stuff! My destination was on the other side of the dog park, which meant Joey and Turnip just wanted to go and run, but I had made a deal that they could go on the way back. They didn’t understand me, but that was the plan, and regardless of how much they pulled and strained on the lead, they were not going before I had done my stuff. I found the place, and it instantly didn’t look as fancy as it sounds. When I went in, my expectation dropped considerably, but a job is a job, and as long as they pay, I don’t care what it looks like. I gave my CV to the guy who was there, and was told that they would be in touch. On our way home we went to the dog park, which was great fun, and there was a gorgeous husky there (as well as Turnip) – I considered swapping Joey for it, but wasn’t sure how Will and Toni would react! I eventually decided to come home when I realised my arms were blue and blotchy they were so cold – always a good indication! When I got home I did a bit of painting on the house, and then went inside, made a roaring fire, and practically put my arms in it – I was so cold! My decision to not bring any normal jumpers is now starting to bite me in the ass, but I don’t have long to go until I am heading up the East coast, and it is only going to get warmer from that point onwards. Sounding good to me. I spent the evening in front of the fire doing some writing – I have a strict schedule to stick to if I want to get it up to date, so I just forced myself to do it!
On Friday morning I did some cleaning – the place was starting to look a bit rubbish, so I cleaned out the fire, did some hovering, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the bathroom, and then mopped the floors. It took me longer than I thought it would, but by the end of it, you could see the rug properly and it wasn’t covered in Turnip fur! Whilst the floor was drying I thought I might as well take the dogs out for a walk. So, we went down to the creek, and they went for a run, whilst I had a lovely stroll around the path. The dogs did decide very quickly that they weren’t going to listen to me, at all. Which was nice, and left me on more than one occasion, just standing on the path screaming their names. Didn’t look crazy at all! One day they will love me, when they had had enough time to forget about Will and Toni. That is what I shall aim for.
The next morning, I upped my game, and decided that I would start each day of the next week with some hula-hooping. It is great fun, and even though I am still crap at it, I am definitely better than I was, but it is still a long time until I can join the circus with my skills. I was going to have my usual breakfast of pancakes, but I had no flour, so decided a fried egg roll would fill the gap nicely. Sadly, I completely mucked up the making of it, and in the end it looked far from edible. I couldn’t bring myself to eat it, so saved it for the dog’s dinner instead – it’s what it looked like anyway! I then gave up on breakfast, had a cup of tea, and as it was nice weather, did some more painting of the house. It is taking so long – each bit I’ve done has already taken about three coats and still looks crap! Lots more needed. Feeling vitalised after my hula-hooping, I then went for a bike ride down the side of the river. It was so nice, and everyone was out, on bikes, or just enjoying the last of the nice weather. I got to my destination incredibly quickly, and then just sat there watching the boats for a while. When I finally decided to go home again, I realised how I had made such good time – I had the wind helping me all the way. This meant that my bike ride home was no where near as relaxing as before, and I struggled to get home, attempting to change the gear on my bike to something more useful, but failing miserably. Ah well, the ride there was nice! I had pretty much run out f food, so was pretty chuffed when our flat mate said he was going to the Supermarket. I tagged along, and stocked up on all sorts of goodies for the next week or so. For the rest of the night we just watched TV, and did very little else!
I woke up pretty late the next day, and my phone was ringing. It was my mum, as it was about 3am in the UK, I suspected something was wrong. Turns out she couldn’t sleep, and thought she’d catch up on my news. How lovely. So, we had a proper long chat, and during the process I had about6 cups of tea, and a packet of biscuits. In my defense it was a 3-hour phone call! Haha! Funnily enough, when I got off the phone I didn’t feel like pancakes – I might have finally kicked the habit! I spent most of the afternoon writing, and drinking tea. I am really trying to get up to date with everything before I go away. I did spend a couple of hours doing some more research for the trip, and it did nothing to help the fact I am almost counting down the days, but still have no proper plan in mind. It would be fine – once I am on the move, I will make decisions as I go. That was how my Adelaide to Melbourne drive was conducted, and it seemed to work pretty bloody well. I once again had my masterpiece of a pumpkin and feta quiche, and also added some other goodies too, like pepper and potato – turns out it is much nicer without my added ingredient. Funny that!
So, I’ve had my one week of chilling out and being a lazy bum, so next week I have a plan, and I hope to hell I am going to stick to it – roughly! 4 more weeks till I go away on my adventure, and only 10 more weeks left in Australia. It seems so bizarre now, when I was leaving it seemed like ages, and it had flown by. But, I have done some pretty cool stuff already, and out of my remaining 10 weeks I am going to be on holiday for 6 of them. And 4 of them in Melbourne, which is getting colder by the day – Queensand is going to be the perfect temperature!
