This week was the week I was going to start my New Year’s Resolution, so, on Monday I went to Coles (with the old lady trolley) and spent lots of pennies, on lots of healthy food – and I was set, to try and get healthier. But, before that I had one more day of being a lazy bitch, so I took full advantage, and started the day with pancakes! With my fridge shelf full of healthy food it was hard to indulge as much as I wanted to, so I took a wander into Yarraville, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, to get some kind of tasty snack, and savour it, as it would be my last until I am half my current size! (Lets see how long this lasts!) I also decided it was time to try and sort some clothes out for y job in Adelaide. I wasn’t really sure what to go for, but we had been sent an email, with dress codes on it. Not the normal work dress code you get, but this was instead littered with phrases such as ‘vintage circus’ and other such silliness. I wasn’t entirely sure how much people took this to heart, but I was certain that I wasn’t going to spend piles of money on the stuff, so I headed to the op-shop in the village, and started trying to find things which would be appropriate. This proved slightly tricky as I had no idea what I was trying to get, but, when I saw a stripy black and white top I knew it was a start, and then found a skirt which was reasonable, and a trilby which almost fitted me, and was only $4. A pretty good start, but more would have to be done, I cant wear one outfit for five weeks! That was pretty much it for the day, not exactly exciting, but at least I got some food.
And so it was the 1st of February, which meant that from now I was trying to be more healthy, and get on my bike more. Sounds simple. My next step, after a healthy brekkie, was to go to the local gym and suss it out – it’s only down the road, but sadly I had chosen a ridiculously hot day to go there on, and by the time I arrived I looked like I had run a marathon. Good first impression. I made the fatal mistake of then saying that I might be interested in joining the gym, or at least going to a couple of their classes. I then got the hard sell. I was there for a good hour or so being shown all of the stuff they had, which to be honest wasn’t particularly flash, but I got shown it all, and also weighed. Jesus Christ, talk about motivation. However, I managed to avoid being talked into a membership, and left after only giving them my mobile number to ring me on (or more like hassle me on!). So, with my mega-leaflet now with all of the deals they are doing at the moment, I left again, to make the grueling walk home! I think I might be good and start going during the Comedy Festival, or at least, I shall try. During the day I amused myself trying to do some exercise, and even tried out an app I had on my phone, which talked you through a work-out. Hilarious! I then spent the afternoon doing some really fun paperwork, and sorting out some stuff, and although it was boring, I did feel very productive at the end of the day.
Day two of healthy living started well with a healthy breakfast, and then I just sat down to do some stuff on my computer as it still seemed too hot to go out, so I formatted my hard-drive and all sorts of other boring things which resulted in me sitting at the kitchen table for hours on end. When I finally couldn’t bare it anymore, I decided to go for a walk with the dogs, and as it was slightly cooler me and Turnip just about survived it! I once again managed to survive the whole day on healthy food, and even went for a bike ride before dinner too. I wonder how long I can keep this up for? In the evening I pampered myself with a face-mask and other such girly things, as after 2 weeks camping, 2 weeks on a farm, and almost a week at a festival I felt revolting. Lovely! So, didn’t really do much for the day it seems, apart from pat myself on the back for eating a mandarin instead of a snickers!
On Thursday I had an interview to go to, foe the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. I had decided to go for Front of House work, because I had met one of the people who is involved in it, and he said that he would try and get me a job, So, with Melbourne Fringe as my only experience, I wasn’t sure how well it was going to go. So, I Got ready, and headed into the City, I got slightly lost on my way to the office, but randomly bumped into Kane who pointed me in the right direction. Turns out I was just across the road from it, but I would have walked straight past it. I broke my vow to try and wean myself off iced coffee, and had one for breakfast. Ooops. I had the interview, and it seemed to go OK, but as always, you never can tell with these things. After my slight lapse I was back on the healthy living wagon, and went swimming whilst I was in the city. It was just round the corner from where I was so, after once again getting a bit lost I found it, and it was a complete bargain! I’ll have to do it more often! I also weighed myself on their scales because I didn’t believe the ones in the gym, however sadly found out they were correct. Dammit. From there I went for a wander found Victoria Market, and got some lovely fresh strawberries to munch on my round. I had a few more jobs to do, so then headed to try and find another Moleskine notebook as I have finished the one I have, and it turned out to be much more of a mission than I thught it was going to be. Everywhere I knew that sold these pads didn’t have the one I wanted, so eventually tracked down an art supply shop which had them, and also got myself a diary This one little thing really did make me feel like a grown up! I don’t know how much I’ll use it, but, I wanted one – and it’s pretty and red! My final stop was to try and find somewhere to buy a new ear-ring, and found a place which didn’t seem too expensive, so treated me to some. Of course, they are nothing more fancy than steel rings, but I liked them, so there we go, I also got a ring for my lip, which should be interesting, because all the ones I’ve have before have driven me mental – lets see how this one fares. When I got home I just wasted the evening watching bad Foxtel movies, and drinking ‘Melonade’ – watermelon, ice, and lemonade all buzzed up in a blender. Lovely.
It was going to be another hot day, so by the time I woke up it was already too humid to go on a bike ride, so I just pottered around the house for the morning. And then it started to rain. And rain. And rain a little bit more. And then I realised water was flowing under the shed door, which meant the shed was under 3 inches of water. I rolled up my trousers, took my socks off, and headed out to save stuff in the shed. There was a definite current when I opened the door and I spent the next few minutes frantically picking stuff up and finding somewhere to put it – which meant just piling it all on top of each other. The water level was still rising, and was a good few inches deep all over the garden, and it got to t a total of about 6 inches deep. Madness! Once I had already been soaked trying to save everything I decided I may as well enjoy it, and went to explore and see how bad the road was. And both the one at the back and the front were definitely under water, and I noticed Joey’s football floating down Francis St. which is normally a main road! And so this was the story for the rest of the night – it rained, me and our flat mate went to watch the rain. The dogs got to sleep inside that night as during the course of the day their bed was soaked 3 times. Poor things!
It was my final day in Melbourne before going to Adelaide, so despite the horrible humidity I had to go out and buy some more clothes for the season, and off I went to Savers in Footscray. I was there for hours and hours trying to find some good stuff, and trying on so many outfits, and eventually came out with some pretty amazing clothes, including a bright turquoise corset! Amazing! Not sure if I will ever be able to wear it, but I loved it, and it fitted like a glove, so I got it. I spent the rest of the day tidying my room, and trying to pack. As usual, I was rubbish at it, and eventually just gave up and shoved it all in the top of my bag. Stupid rucksack! I even got the joys of having an early night, as I had managed to mess up my travel plans, and had to get a taxi at 5:30am. Although I had thought I had checked everything when I booked my ticket, it turns out I hadn’t checked I would actually be able to get into the city. This meant a $50 cab ride to the airport. So, I fell asleep, terrified I wouldn’t hear my alarms, and dozed all night.
When I woke up for the 4th time it was almost 5am, so I got up, and pottered about, having a cup of tea, and doubling checking my bag to make sure I had everything I needed. I got to the airport with no hassle, but a big bill, and got checked in fine. Boring hour on plane. Done. I did manage to get quite a few pairs of free headphones, so I suppose it wasn’t completely boring! By the time I got into the centre of Adelaide it was 9am, and already getting hot, so I met Will at the site of my work for the next month, and got the keys to the apartment I was going to be staying in. I was going to be staying on the sofa of the flat Will was living in, but when I got up to the flat, I found out someone else had already taken residence on the living room floor, so I was in the other single bed in Will’ room. Once I’d dumped all my stuff I went for a look around Adelaide, and through the markets which were on, and it was lovely, and people hadn’t been lying about how hot it can get. It wasn’t insane, but it was a big difference from Melbourne rain. As I was pottering about I checked my email, and safe to say, I wish I hadn’t. I’m not going to go into it, but let’s just say that no-one died, but what got definitely changed my plans for the day, and I went to the pub for a good few hours.
And that was my week, and I have finished it in Adelaide, ready to do some work – seems like ages since I have done some work! Bring it on Garden of Unearthly Delights!
